If you have these lines on your nails

Posted on April 15, 2026 by Admin

That’s another incomplete, scary-sounding headline. Nail lines can mean different things—most are harmless, but a few can signal health issues depending on their type.

Here’s how to understand them 👇

🧠 Common types of nail lines

➖ 1. Vertical lines (most common)

  • Run from cuticle to tip
  • Usually normal with aging

👉 Not a health problem

➖ 2. Horizontal lines (Beau’s lines)

  • Go across the nail
  • Can appear after:
    • Illness
    • Stress
    • Injury

👉 Sometimes linked to conditions like Diabetes or severe infection

⚪ 3. White lines or spots

  • Often from minor injury to the nail
  • Very common

👉 Usually harmless

⚫ 4. Dark vertical line

  • A single dark streak

⚠️ Needs attention if:

  • It’s new
  • Getting wider
  • Has irregular edges

👉 Rarely, could be serious and should be checked

🟡 5. Ridges + brittle nails

  • May relate to:
    • Nutritional deficiencies
    • Thyroid issues

🚨 When to see a doctor

  • Sudden changes in multiple nails
  • Pain, swelling, or nail separation
  • Dark streak that changes over time

✔️ Bottom line

Most nail lines are normal or harmless, but certain patterns (especially horizontal or dark lines) may need medical attention.

If you want, describe what your nails look like (color, direction of lines), and I’ll help you identify it more precisely 👍
