Scratches on glasses: don’t waste money: apply a little and they’ll disappear instantly.

Posted on April 23, 2026 by Admin

That claim is misleading. You can’t truly make scratches on glasses “disappear instantly.” Most viral tricks either don’t work or can damage your lenses further.

🧠 Why scratches are hard to fix

Eyeglass lenses (often plastic with coatings) get physical damage. Once scratched, the surface is altered—you can’t fully reverse it at home.

⚠️ Popular “fixes” that don’t really fix

❌ Toothpaste

  • Acts like a mild abrasive
  • May reduce the look slightly but can worsen scratches

❌ Baking soda paste

  • Same issue—abrasive and uneven results

❌ Oils or wax

  • Temporarily fill scratches so they look better
  • Effect wears off quickly

🚫 Bigger risk

These methods can damage coatings like:

  • Anti-reflective coating
  • Scratch-resistant layers

Once those are damaged, lenses often look worse.

✅ What actually helps

✔️ Minor scratches

  • Nothing fully removes them, but:
    • Keep lenses clean
    • Use proper microfiber cloths
    • Live with very light marks if vision isn’t affected

✔️ Deeper scratches

  • Best solution: replace lenses
  • Especially if vision clarity is affected

🧠 Prevention tips

  • Store glasses in a case
  • Clean with microfiber cloth (not clothing)
  • Avoid placing lenses face-down

✅ Bottom line

There’s no magic substance that erases scratches. Most “instant fixes” are temporary at best and harmful at worst.

If you want, tell me how deep the scratches are—I can suggest whether it’s worth trying anything or just replacing the lenses.
