What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

Blood pressure changes slightly with age, but doctors still aim for a healthy range close to 120/80 mmHg for most adults. Blood pressure is written as systolic/diastolic (top number / bottom number).

Newborn (0–1 month) 60–90 / 20–60 mmHg
Infant (1–12 months) 80–100 / 55–65 mmHg
Toddler (1–5 years) 90–105 / 55–70 mmHg
Children (6–13 years) 95–110 / 60–75 mmHg
Teenagers (14–18 years) 105–120 / 65–80 mmHg
Adults (19–39 years) 110–120 / 70–80 mmHg
Adults (40–59 years) 115–130 / 70–85 mmHg
60 years and older 120–140 / 70–90 mmHg

General Blood Pressure Categories (Adults)

  • Normal: below 120 / 80 mmHg
  • Elevated: 120–129 / below 80
  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension Stage 1): 130–139 / 80–89
  • Hypertension Stage 2: 140 / 90 or higher
  • Hypertensive crisis: 180 / 120 or higher (needs urgent medical care)
