Here’s a simple and delicious way to make teriyaki chicken at home. 🍗🍯 It’s flavorful, slightly sweet, and pairs perfectly with rice or vegetables.

Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

Chicken

  • 2–4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil or sesame oil

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp mirin or rice vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tbsp water (if using cornstarch)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, mirin, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Optional: Mix cornstarch and water separately for thickening.

2. Cook the Chicken

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook chicken 5–7 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.

3. Add the Teriyaki Sauce

  1. Pour the sauce over the chicken in the pan.
  2. Simmer 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
  3. If using cornstarch, add the slurry to the pan to thicken further.

4. Serve

  • Slice the chicken and drizzle with extra sauce.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  • Serve with steamed rice, quinoa, or stir-fried veggies.

💡 Tips

  • Marinate chicken in teriyaki sauce for 30 minutes to overnight for extra flavor.
  • For a healthier version, swap honey for maple syrup or reduce sugar.
  • Use a nonstick pan or cast iron skillet to prevent sticking.
