Reduce foot & ankle swelling…

Posted on April 17, 2026 by Admin

Foot and ankle swelling (often called Edema) is common—and usually manageable once you address the cause.

🧠 Why it happens

Fluid can collect in the lower legs due to:

  • Standing or sitting too long
  • Heat
  • High salt intake
  • Poor circulation
  • Certain medications
  • Conditions like Heart failure or Kidney disease

⚡ What helps reduce swelling

🦶 1. Elevate your legs

  • Raise feet above heart level for 15–30 minutes
  • Helps fluid drain back into circulation

🚶 2. Move regularly

  • Walk or stretch every 30–60 minutes
  • Avoid long periods of sitting or standing

🧂 3. Reduce salt intake

  • Less sodium = less fluid retention

💧 4. Stay hydrated

  • Helps your body balance fluids better

🧦 5. Compression socks

  • Improve circulation and reduce swelling
  • Especially useful if you’re on your feet a lot

❄️ 6. Cool your feet

  • Cold compress or cool water soak can reduce swelling temporarily

⚠️ When to be careful

See a doctor if:

  • Swelling is sudden or severe
  • Only one leg is swollen
  • Pain, redness, or warmth is present
  • You have shortness of breath

👉 Could indicate serious conditions like a blood clot or heart issue

🧠 Simple daily habit

Even a 10–15 minute walk + leg elevation can make a noticeable difference.

✅ Bottom line

Most swelling is due to fluid pooling and lifestyle factors, and simple changes can help—but persistent or unusual swelling should be checked.

If you want, tell me:

  • When the swelling happens
  • One foot or both
  • Any other symptoms

…I can help narrow down the cause.
