Very dirty mop, do not buy it again: a drop of this ingredient and it will be as good as new again

Posted on April 16, 2026 by Admin

That headline is a bit clickbait-y—but the idea behind it is actually simple: you can clean and refresh a very dirty mop with a few common household ingredients instead of throwing it away.

Here are the most effective options:

🧼 1. Vinegar (deep cleaning + odor removal)

  • Mix 1 cup white vinegar in a bucket of hot water
  • Soak the mop for 20–30 minutes
  • Rinse thoroughly and let it dry

👉 Vinegar kills bacteria and removes bad smells really well.

🧂 2. Baking soda (for grime + buildup)

  • Add 2–3 tablespoons baking soda to warm water
  • Let the mop soak for 15–20 minutes
  • Rinse well

👉 Good for loosening dirt and grease stuck in the fibers.

🧴 3. Bleach (for disinfecting – use carefully)

  • Mix ½ cup bleach in a bucket of water
  • Soak for 10–15 minutes only
  • Rinse very thoroughly

👉 Best if the mop smells bad or has bacteria/mold—but don’t overuse, as it can damage fibers.

🔥 Pro tip:

After soaking, wash the mop in a washing machine (if it’s machine-safe) for best results.

⚠️ When to replace instead

Even cleaning won’t help if:

  • The fibers are falling apart
  • It still smells after washing
  • It leaves dirt instead of cleaning

In those cases, it’s time to replace it.

If you want, I can give you a 1-minute “like new” method using stuff you already have at home.
